Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the opportunity, applicants have to meet certain requirements as listed below:

• Students who live in areas or states where there are no HBCUs
• Acceptable Subject or Course: Any undergraduate course that UMES offers. Acceptable Criteria: Prospective students from qualified states or U.S. territories starting in the Fall 2024 semester. Freshmen and transfer students are both qualified. Present UMES students are not eligible.

Application Procedure

Follow the process below on how to apply for the HBCU Initiative Scholarship at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for the 2024-25 academic session: 

• Those who wish to apply must be admitted to the institution for an undergraduate program. Three channels are available to prospective candidates: the UMES, the default Application, the Common App, and the Common Black College App. Official transcripts, optional outcomes from standardized tests, letters of recommendation, a personal statement, and a $35 nonrefundable application fee must be sent with the completed application. Applications must be finalized by the deadline indicated.
