What the Scholarship Offers

The Bond University Indigenous Higher Degree by Research Scholarship offers a funded opportunity for prospective applicants as follows:

  • Allowance for maintenance up to a maximum of three years. For both scholarship categories, the full-time stipend rate in 2023 will be $29,863 (indexed yearly).
  • Under the Australian Government Research Training Program, candidates for Indigenous scholarships are already eligible for a 100% cost remission.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the opportunity, applicants have to meet certain requirements as listed below:

  • Identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person in accordance with ABSTUDY.
  • A current Letter of Offer from Bond University for a PhD program or Professional Doctorate in Occupational Therapy is required.
  • Studying for your program must be your full-time job.
  • Furthermore, you should not:
    • Own a certification that is on par with or better than the higher degree you are pursuing via research
    • Obtain a living allowance grant, scholarship, or wage that surpasses 75% of the return on theory. Scholarship living allowance rate for research program students pursuing a higher degree
    • be getting a grant for tuition fees from the Commonwealth. 
  • In order to be considered, applicants must present strong proof of their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status. Verification of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status will be required, and it will be done via a community organization’s common seal. Statutory declarations and other types of paperwork may be taken into consideration in extraordinary circumstances. The accompanying paperwork must be submitted in original or certified copies.

Application Procedure

Follow the process below on how to apply for the Bond University Indigenous Higher Degree by Research Scholarship academic session: 

  • Students who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and who are enrolled in or want to enroll in Bond University’s doctoral research program may apply for scholarships.
  • Your scholarship application won’t be evaluated until the Bond University Admissions Department has sent you a legitimate Letter of Offer for admission to a doctorate research program.
  • It may take six to ten weeks to finish some admissions applications. Make sure you give yourself enough time before the scholarship round closes to finish your admissions application. Visit the Bond University Research Degrees webpage for further details on the admissions process.
