What the Scholarship Offers
The University of South Australia Research Training Program international (RTPi) Scholarships offers a funded opportunity for prospective applicants as follows:
- The entire stipend is paid weekly over a maximum of three years for PhD students and two years for Master of Research students, with a minimum annual salary of $32,500 (2023 stipend rate). For PhD students, the entire cost waiver is valid for up to three years, and for Master of Research students, it is valid for up to two years. In cases where the selected applicant needs a student visa, this scholarship provides Overseas Student Health Cover (Singles Cover) with BUPA, UniSA’s preferred supplier. There is a thesis allowance offered. To be sure it’s the correct deal for you, please carefully review it.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the opportunity, applicants have to meet certain requirements as listed below:

- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) candidates must possess or be qualified to possess:
- A relevant master’s degree (note: in some research fields, a relevant master’s degree with a research component is required); or prove to the dean of research that your prior coursework, pertinent work experience, and published research work are sufficiently relevant and of high enough quality to prepare the applicant for a research degree. An honours degree or a bachelor’s degree with honours in an appropriate discipline.
- For admission to the Master of Research program, candidates must possess or be qualified for:
- A Bachelor’s degree (or it’s equivalent) that is at least three years old and has a minimum credit average; an Honors degree or a Bachelor’s degree with honours; a Master’s degree that is appropriate; or proof that your prior coursework professional experience and published research are relevant and of a high enough calibre to qualify you.
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) candidates must possess or be qualified to possess:
- For a research degree Doctor of Philosophy (by Portfolio of Publications)

- In general, candidates for this degree should not already possess a PhD and should have generated research of worldwide significance in their particular disciplines based on their continuous record of academic publication.Â

- In general, candidates for this degree must fulfil the prerequisites for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program and typically demonstrate that they have worked in their profession for at least five years, preferably in the previous ten years.
