Currently, the University of Alberta administers over $40 million in scholarships and grants annually. This is one of the highest in all of Canada. The school is home to thousands of international students, although its scholarships are open to all.

General Scholarship Information

According to the University of Alberta’s website, one in five first-year students at the school will get a scholarship to study there. These scholarships are open to both local and international students, regardless of their field of study.

In fact, there are even Transfer Scholarships, which are open to students transferring from other post-secondary educational institutions.

General Eligibility Requirements

Candidates looking to get entrance awards and scholarships will need to meet the following requirements:

  • An admission average that either meets or exceeds those required for the specific award or scholarship.
  • A desire to enter the university through high school
  • Fewer than 12 credits of university work have already been taken throughout the student’s stay in high school
  • The credits could also have been gotten during the time taken off between high school and university education, as long as the student didn’t get any post-secondary credits during the period
  • The student will need to be entering their first year of full-time studies in an undergraduate degree program at the University of Alberta as of September of the coming year

Note that the school could impose some additional scholarship criteria. Any candidates looking to get specific scholarships will be assessed based on their admission information and the strength of their application.

As the university explains, its scholarship and award grants are usually quite competitive. So, even if you are eligible for one, there is no real guarantee that you could get it eventually.

Scholarship and award offers are also based on the accuracy of the student’s self-recorded grades. The University of Alberta will conduct independent investigations into these claims, and any discrepancies between the final transcript and the student’s self-recorded grades will lead to the scholarship award being immediately revoked.

How to Apply

To apply for any of the University of Alberta’s scholarships and awards, you will need to fill in the Student Awards application form here.
