Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the opportunity, applicants have to meet certain requirements as listed below:

  • The required language is English.
  • All nations in the globe are eligible.
  • A full-time PhD program in the humanities or social sciences (broadly defined) must already have you admitted into or be enrolled in year one, year two, or year three.
  • The four main issues of the Foundation must be addressed in at least one of your PhD projects: People in their Natural Environment, Human Rights and Dignity, Canada and the World, and Responsible Citizenship
  • No matter if they are enrolled at a domestic or foreign institution, Canadian citizens are qualified.
  • Eligible candidates for PhD programs at Canadian universities are non-Canadians (permanent residents or foreign citizens).

Application Procedure

Follow the process below on how to apply for the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarships for the 2024-25 academic session: 

  • Find out when the internal selection process deadlines at your university are: There are internal deadlines for each university, so be careful to apply on time.
  • Sign up: Create an account on the Foundation’s application webpage when the challenge starts. After registration, you will be sent an email with your username and password (if you do not see it, please check your spam folder). If you have an account from a prior scholarship competition, you may reset your password or log in using your current login information.
  • Complete the application: After logging in, you may apply by filling out the form found in the portal’s “Ébauche / Draft” section. In the portal’s “Coordonnées / Contacts” area, kindly include your contact details as well.
  • Obtain approval letters: You will be required to submit the name and email address of your two referees in the designated box throughout the entire application procedure. The referees will instantly get an email inviting them to send their reference letters straight to our portal in PDF format. We suggest that you get in touch with your references again to make sure they submit on schedule.
  • Add transcripts to the upload: All of your post-secondary transcripts should be uploaded into a single PDF document. Transcripts from CEGEP should not be included for any applicants who attended in Quebec.
