The scholarship welcomes applications from international graduates with exceptional academic and co-curricular backgrounds. The call for applications for the academic year 2023/2024 opens from April 17th to May 18th, 2023, inviting scholars to apply and take advantage of the opportunity to experience Malaysian hospitality alongside a world-class higher education experience.

What the Scholarship Offers

The Malaysia International Scholarship offers a funded opportunity for prospective applicants as follows:

  • The university will receive payment of the tuition costs upfront for the duration of the sponsorship agreement. 
  • A living stipend of RM 1,500.00 per month is provided.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the opportunity, applicants have to meet certain requirements as listed below:

  • In order to enrol in postgraduate programs at the chosen universities and higher education establishments, scholars must study full-time. The scholars bear the burden of verifying their university entrance.
  • During the duration of the scholarship, scholars are not permitted to alter their course of study without the Ministry of Higher Education’s and the university’s written consent.
  • In addition to meeting the criteria of the study program, scholars must follow the university’s policies, procedures, and behavior standards, as well as Malaysian legal requirements.
  • The scholar’s scholarship will be immediately suspended in the event of a suspension from the university. During the suspension, there is no payment for monthly allowances.
  • The successful candidates must apply and fulfil all conditions, including a medical exam, in order for an appropriate entry visa to be issued. The proposal from the

  • Scholars will have their scholarships revoked if they are unable to maintain adequate academic progress and good standing for the duration of their studies as required by their host university.
  • The scholarships can be taken up in Malaysian universities and other higher education establishments, and the research needs to be done there.
  • Without official host university permission, scholars are not permitted to work for pay while receiving a scholarship.
  • Not older than 40 or 45 years old, respectively, while submitting an application for a master’s or PhD.
  • Having strong educational credentials:
    • Master’s candidates must have a CGPA of 3.0 and a Bachelor’s degree with honors or higher; ii. PhD applicants must have a Master’s degree with honors or higher and a CGPA of 3.0 and exceptional performance in courses relevant to the proposed study program.
    • Demonstrating a high level of competence in the English language: i. Scoring 6.0 or above on the IELTS; ii. Reaching a total score of 550 or above on the TOEFL paper-based exam (PBT); iii. Having earned a prior degree in which English was the medium of instruction.
    • Sending in a written research proposal* for a Master’s degree that must be at least 1,000 words long and pertinent to the desired topic of study.
  • Applicants are able to apply to all 20 Malaysian public universities and 4 selected private institutions.

Application Procedure

Follow the process below on how to apply for the Malaysia International Scholarship for the 2024/25 academic session: 

  • You may apply for MIS online via our online application system.
  • The Application Form must be completed in its entirety, with all required information provided, and the mandatory papers specified below scanned, saved in PDF format, and sent to the online application system. 
    • A certified copy of the passport, which should have a minimum of six months remaining on it as proof of citizenship; ii. A certified copy of the academic transcript (or transcripts):
    • Undergraduate transcripts (including the master’s degree transcript for PhD applicants)
    • Compile a record of every course you took throughout your prior study program.
