About the FellowshipÂ
The Echidna Global Scholars Program at the Center for Universal Education (CUE) is an initiative from the Brookings Institution that looks to catalyze and grow the impact of local leaders looking to advance the course of gender equality through education.Â
The fellowship runs for six months, with Echidna Scholars conducting their individual research with a focus on bolstering the learning opportunities available to the following groups:Â
- Girls
- Young women
- Gender non-conforming individualsÂ
The objective is to help these people bolster their leadership skills and policy proposals, build substantial knowledge about gender and global education issues, and proffer solutions to some of these issues that can be applied in the real world.Â
Once they complete the fellowship, scholars will be integrated into the Echidna Alumni Network, where they will be able to connect and network with others of like minds. The Alumni Network bolsters substantive and significant influences on gender transformative education, both locally and globally.Â
Currently, the Echidna Global Scholars fellowship consists of three stages:Â
Pre-residencyÂ
This stage occurs in the scholar’s home country, with support from the Center for Universal Education (CUE). Scholars will be able to conduct in-country research and data analysis, as well as attend virtual workshops, group meetings, and advisory sessions.Â
Here, scholars will be able to understand leadership concepts and gain exposure to tools that will help develop their impact strategyÂ
ResidencyÂ
The residency stage takes place in Washington, D.C. Here, scholars will focus more on bolstering their reach through research publications and dissemination via Broking’s multimedia channels.Â
The residency phase is built to help scholars leverage research for policy and critical audiences – while also expanding scholars’ networks and promoting their work.Â
Post-residencyÂ
The final stage happens in the scholar’s home country. It goes on for two years, with the CUE team providing tactical support for alumni as they design social plans where they can implement their research and work during the pre-residency and residency periods.Â
