British Council’s 90th Anniversary Research Fellowships, UK 2024-25

The British Council’s 90th Anniversary Research Fellowships are a big deal for early-career researchers. If you’ve finished your PhD in the last seven years and you’re from a country where the British Council works, you could get to spend a year at the University of Edinburgh. You’ll get a monthly bursary and travel costs covered, plus you’ll be part of a vibrant community of scholars.

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

It’s not just about studying; it’s about sharing what you learn. You’ll spend ten months in Edinburgh and up to two months back home, working with the British Council. This fellowship is a chance to dive deep into research that can make the world a better place.

A Background

These fellowships are for postdoctoral researchers only. So, if you’re looking for undergrad or Master’s opportunities, this isn’t the right fit. But for PhD holders, it’s perfect. The research you do should connect with the British Council’s goals, like supporting peace and prosperity around the world.

You’ve got until July 26, 2024, to apply, and the fellowship starts in January 2025. It’s a three-year partnership, so there will be more chances in the future. But why wait? If you’re eligible, go for it now and start planning your research journey.

What the Scholarship Offers

The British Council’s 90th Anniversary Research Fellowships offers a funded opportunity for prospective applicants as follows:

  • The fellowship offers a monthly grant of £2,500, travel costs, desk space, access to the library, and academic mentorship as a member of the active visiting fellows environment at IASH. Over the course of their fellowships, fellows will also be required to interact extensively with the British Council, which will include visiting offices in the UK. As part of the fellowship’s knowledge-sharing element, scholars may choose to spend time at a British Council office back home.
